The Third Teacher

Every learning app asks your kid to click. Ours asks them to explain.

The Third Teacher is a spoken, Socratic tutor for homeschool families. It never hands your child an answer. It asks smaller and smaller questions until your child finds the answer — and then asks them to teach it back.

RIGBY

Your shop has two rare fusion crystals — Crystal A: 4,832 coins, Crystal B: 4,328 coins. Which is more expensive — and how do you know, just by looking at the digits?

STRAT, AGE 8 (SPOKEN ALOUD)

Crystal A. Both thousands are a four, then I looked at the hundreds — there was 800 on Crystal A and only 300 on Crystal B... so Crystal A's the answer.

RIGBY

That's the real trick mathematicians use — comparing place by place, left to right. And you invented it yourself just now.

A real lesson. The student is the founder's son.

01How it teaches

It never just gives the answer.

Ask it for the answer and it asks you a smaller question. That is the whole method — the one tutors have used since Socrates, running patiently, every day, without a schedule.

Your child talks. It listens.

Lessons are spoken out loud — no typing needed. Kids reason at the speed of their voice, years ahead of their hands.

Mastery is earned, not clicked.

A concept counts only when your child can teach it back — twice, on different days. Then it comes back for review at three days, ten days, thirty. Green checkmarks are cheap. Explanations aren't.

02Parents see everything

The only tutor with an open door.

Every word of every lesson is saved and readable by you — there is no private channel between the tutor and your child. You get a live mastery map against state standards, so "how's math going?" has a real answer.

And if your child ever says something that worries us — about being hurt, scared, or unsafe — the lesson stops, your child is pointed straight back to you, and an alert lands in your inbox that moment. Not on a dashboard you have to remember to check.

03Works with your homeschool

Built for charter paperwork, not against it.

Every lesson is coded to a standard (California Common Core math today, more subjects next). When your ES meeting comes around, you export a month of real work samples — the problem, your child's own reasoning, the standard code — instead of scrambling for screenshots.

4.NBT.1 · 4.OA.3 · 4.NF.1 · … 44 standards mapped, 4th grade spine + 5th grade stretch.

04Why "the third"

Parents first. The world second. Us third.

The Reggio Emilia educators taught that a child's first teacher is their parents, and the second is the world around them.

We built the third teacher — one that knows its place. Below you. Transparent to you. In service of your family.

05From the founder

I'm a homeschool dad in the Sierra Nevada foothills. I built this for my son, who is eight, designs his own video games, and can out-argue me before breakfast — but couldn't type a sentence without losing his train of thought.

So I built a teacher he could talk to. He uses it every day. Last month he asked me for more math. I'm still not over it.
